High School Athletics
Local high schools are gearing up for their fall sports seasons, emphasizing the importance of athletics in student development. For instance, Fenway High School offers a range of sports, including basketball, baseball, and softball. The school emphasizes academic excellence alongside athletic participation, requiring student-athletes to maintain a minimum grade of C- in each class. Academic support is available through the Panthers Zone to help students balance their studies and sports commitments.
College Sports
Boston College’s athletic teams, known as the Eagles, compete at the NCAA Division I level across various sports. The men’s teams participate in several ACC sports, such as baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track & field. Additionally, the Eagles compete in non-ACC sports like fencing, ice hockey, sailing, and skiing. The women’s teams have a similarly broad range of sports, including ACC competitions in basketball, cross country, field hockey, golf, lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. Beyond the ACC, they also compete in fencing, ice hockey, sailing, and skiing.
Boston College also offers a variety of club sports, providing students with opportunities to engage in athletic pursuits at a competitive level while fostering teamwork and leadership skills. Club sports teams play other colleges and universities but are not part of the NCAA or ACC. The teams are supported by the department of Campus Recreation and request funding from the Club Sport Council Executive Board.
